The structure of the interview follows the rules of
Introduction
Developmental questions: these are the questions that introduce you to the interviewee and to start the interview.
Key questioning - Key questions are used to keep an interview flowing and often to start an interview. They are usually suggestive which means the interviewer asks a question suggesting a certain topic of interest.
Confidence building is important because it enables an interview to flow well without any tension or hesitation when asking questions. It is also important otherwise the interviewer and interviewee might feel awkward during the interview.
Body language and good active listening is important because otherwise it gives off the impression that one of them isn't interested in the interview and doesn't want to be there. If someones body language is negative for example really slouched and grumpy in the face then they do not want to be there.
The best type of questioning is suggestive because it can lead to another question, therefore gaining more information from the interview followed by open because open questions have long and detailed answers which often gets the answer you want to hear as they are answering truthly and sharing a lot of information on the questions asked.
Below is an interview which follows this rule: Parkinson interviews Meg Ryan
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=blpq-Iwu25s - This interview with Meg Ryan shows Parkinson asking only Open questions about her life and the future. A direct question at the very beginning from Parkinson leaves Meg in a very uncomfortable state for the rest of the interview. He says "you said once that acting was not in your nature". By saying this he is belittling her in front of a crowd as this is saying she is not a good actor and making her look a fool because not many actors would say that. After this question she is left uncomfortable and answers with hesitation and finds it hard to get herself out of the situation shes been placed in. The questions swiftly change when Parkinson notices awkwardness within the interview. By moving onto a the topic of her history in Journalism he knows that by asking this question it will regain conversation within the interview because this is a topic that Meg Ryan feels more comfortable talking about instead of talking about the mistake she made when she said acting wasn't in her nature. At 1:55 we see Meg Ryan laugh at the question being asked by Parkinson after saying "what type of journalist would you have become". She laughs because she finds the question stupid, this might be because she is lying about being a journalist and not knowing much about it at all. This is another example of a direct question. Direct questions as proven here are usually either the questions that get you into trouble or the ones that make interviewees feel uncomfortable. 2:20 shows Parkinson telling Meg Ryan what to say, its as if hes lost his patience with her being so reluctant to answer his questions. After this little scene we see Meg Ryan feel very uncomfortable with even being on the show let alone to answer the questions. Meg Ryan seems to show very negative body language throughout the interview after that first direct question. This is very clear to Parkinson as he says it near the end of the interview. She is very tight and laughs at a few questions she thinks are inappropriate. Parkinson tries to create less tension in the interview but Megs body language tells him that its not working and by the end of the interview he gives up and tells her how it is.
